FLOWER SHOW 2019 - BLOSSOMS AND BUBBLES - A KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOR

On March 28, 2019 the Bullock Room at the historic Simon Theater in Brenham was turned into a floral wonderland. Club members paired up for this show and their creativity shone!

Earlier in the year, members were asked to choose from different colored tablecloths. Designs were to be an interpretation of that color and the color was to be integrated into the design. Each of the fifteen designs was carefully planned, designed and presented on tall cocktail tables covered with the cloths of the member’s choice. Round tables for eight surrounded the tables of floral designs and were set for the luncheon catered by Design II, which was a beautiful plate of chicken crepes, salad and a cup of chilled strawberry soup. A beautifully boxed cupcake was at every place setting as a gift for our guests.

There was a quick switch directly after lunch when the room was setup for our evening guests to enjoy some “Blossoms, Bubbles & Brew”. They were treated to champagne, beer, homemade deer sausage, pork sliders and a most gorgeous cheeseboard complete with dried apricots, strawberries, grapes, nuts, etc. We almost had to usher our guests out of the door as they were having such a wonderful time.

We are thankful for members who go above and beyond. A huge thanks goes to Flower Show Chairmen, Betsy Striegler and Debbie Urquhart. Anything they have their hands in is always extraordinary! We know they would say that it takes a team and so “thank you’s” go out to all members however large or small your task…all are important. A special thanks to those who prepared food for this event - Debi Meschwitz, Shannon Webb, Charlotte LaRoche and her team.

Here’s a slideshow for your enjoyment!

Flower show 2018 - BOOKS IN BLOOM, A GREAT SUCCESS!

On Thursday, April 19, 2018, the members of the Bluebonnet Garden Club in Brenham delighted and wowed our guests at our Flower Show, "Books in Bloom", held in the new and beautiful Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library. Each member selected a favorite book to interpret. The designs were creative and beautiful, whimsical and fun...just as we knew they would be.

We heard so many wonderful and glowing compliments about the designs as well as the function itself.  Debbie Urquhart and Betsy Striegler did a most incredible job of planning and executing this show.  Everything was top notch!  The Blue Bell ice cream social in the afternoon was a huge success and we had a line of people waiting to get in the door. Upon leaving they were shaking their heads in amazement at the transformation the fabulous designs had on the meeting room. The evening event was just as well received with hors d'oeuvres from Design II and socializing with so many from our community. In a word - FUN!

Each member participated with a design and also was a assigned a task to help make this a great success.  Thanks to all who did more than one or two or three jobs!  And a huge thank you to those husbands who are always willing to make themselves available for just about anything we ask them to do.

Well done club!!

flower show 2017 - god’s creation in music

Another year...another flower show, but this time a JUDGED one!  And were they ever tough on us!  So many rules, so many details, but the results were beautiful!  Each design was beautiful and unique, obviously well thought out by the designer.  The horticulture part of the show featured some unusual plants and cuttings also.  Not only did we put on a great show for our guests, we also learned a whole lot just by creating a design through the interpretation of a song! Interesting concept for sure!  The judges remarked that the show was a beautiful one overall, but they chose to give the Tri-Color Award AND the Award of Design Excellence to Betsy Streigler. Her design was given a 100!! Sandy Batt's creation was given a 99 and earned her the Designer's Choice Award.

Guests enjoyed cookies and punch provided by club members as they strolled through the beautiful and historic Giddings-Stone Mansion viewing the floral designs and horticulture entries.  Many purchased the recently published Bluebonnet Garden Club Cookbook as they departed.

Following are photos of the award winners and a slideshow.

Betsy Striegler's design entitled, "Everlasting Love" that won the Tri-Color Award and also the Award of Design Excellence. Great job, Betsy!!

**TABLESCAPES CELEBRATIONS**...IN THE BOOKS!

Months of planning, anguished days of preparation by EVERY member, and days of working to set up resulted in an incredibly beautiful flower show! All who were able (Unfortunately, a few of our members became ill the day before the show...sorry dear friends.) joined in to set up, clean, bake, create and do whatever was necessary for the execution of "Tablescapes Celebration".

We are still amazed that we served lunch to 300 people and Sweet Treats to a yet undetermined number. The menu was well-received by all.  The atmosphere was such that people did not want to leave after they had lunch and viewed the tables!  That's a compliment in itself!  Hats off to the Luncheon Committee for every detail...the meal, the placemats, the flatware rolled in a napkin with the cutest butterfly napkin ring!  Really! Really!  Who, but this group of women thinks of those details? It all looked beautiful.

The tablescapes...not enough can be said about the gorgeous and unique creations.  Each tablescape perfectly represented its theme.  Walking from table to table, thinking that this one was the best and then coming upon the next one and changing your mind once again was a story told by many.  Everyone did an outstanding job of planning and execution!  If you were not in attendance, check out the slideshow below, but the photos can not possibly reflect the beauty seen walking into the room.

Thank you to each member for your part in bringing this together.  A very special thanks to Flower Show Chairmen, Debi Meschwitz and Freda Martin, who were the masterminds of this event...outstanding planning ladies!   Thank-yous also go to Publicity Chairmen, Charlotte LaRoche & Nancy Low; Tickets, Donna Cummins & Rita Meaux; Staging & Placement, Sherry Barkman, Lana McDaniel, Carolyn Sander & Debbie Urquhart; Hospitality, Joy Kenjura, Mary McCoy, Lucille Welch & Joan Zeiss; Luncheon & Sweet Treats, Scottie Davis, Twila Tate, Judy Pendergrass, Merlene Schumacher, Betsy Streigler.

And many thanks to the businesses who donated items...Hermann Furniture, Antique Rose Emporium and Independence Coffee
